Michael D. Fleming, President
Michael D. Fleming currently serves as a Senior Sales Consultant for the Long Term Care Business Unit of a leading global biomedicines and pharmaceutical corporation. He has over twenty years of progressive, professional experience through various roles in the area of sales and marketing, team leadership, training and development, regulatory affairs and compliance, as well as education administration.
He holds a master’s degree in administrative management from Bowie State University. While beginning his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland – College Park, he completed a bachelor’s degree in management science at Kean University and successfully served multiple internships in public relations, community development and marketing, among them with the National Basketball Association (NBA) – Team Relations Office.
His background in education administration include contributions toward the development of the University of the District of Columbia Aftercare Program, a nationally-recognized model program in conjunction with the Government of the District of Columbia designed to provide a curriculum for addictions counseling training and certification. He also served as an accreditation specialist of vocational career schools representing U.S. Department of Education agencies.
He is a Lifetime Member of the National Black MBA Association, Inc. and actively involved with its New Jersey Chapter which he currently serves as its Chapter President, with committee leadership experiences in Membership, Student Affairs and its award-winning Leaders of Tomorrow ® (LOT) Program supporting youth mentorship. Michael is a Lifetime Member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. having chaired both Education and Bigger & Better Business Committees; past board member of the African Globe Theater Works; Founder & Chairman for the Taylor-Banks Alumni Scholarship Fund; and engagement with a host of other professional and community-based organizations.
Having received several awards and acknowledgements for his contributions to community youth and work in support of corporate diversity and professional development initiatives. However, Michael considers his life’s greatest honor in being a son, a husband and father.
Sonya Ruffin, Vice President of Administration
Sonya Ruffin currently serves as the Vice President of Administration. Previously she served as the Committee Chairperson for the Event Planning and Fundraising Committee(s). Her professional experience includes a longstanding tenure as a Human Resources professional in the retail sales market. Sonya received her MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management and her BA Business Management from North Carolina State University. As a transplant from North Carolina over 15 years ago, Sonya has networked her way into many organizations within the New Jersey area. Sonya has participated on social committees for both IBM and Microsoft’s Employee Resource Groups. Sonya has also served as a board member for the Eastern Region National Brotherhood of Skiers (serving chapters from Maine to Florida) and the local ski chapter – Thrillseekers, Inc of New York City. As a board member for both the Eastern Region and local ski club, Sonya has coordinated events throughout the U.S. and internationally for thousands of attendees. Events have included regional conferences, excursions, fundraising activities, and local social gatherings. Sonya enjoys utilizing her creativity and event planning experience in order to increase funding for chapter initiatives, to increase membership; as well as membership participation for the NBMBAA-NJ Chapter.
Adrienne D. Combs, Vice President of Operations
Adrienne D. Combs is currently a Project Manager at a global financial services company. She has over 20 years of experience in Information Technology working in the Insurance, Financial Services and Healthcare Industries. Adrienne received a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems Analysis and Development from Drexel University. She holds a Master of Public Administration from Rutgers University – Newark and a Masters Certificate in Management of Technology from New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Adrienne is an active member in her church serving as Trustee, Vice President of the Scholarship and Education Ministry and Treasurer of the choir. She is also a member of an investment club in which she serves as Treasurer. She is a member of the National Black MBA Association, New Jersey Chapter currently serving as its Vice President of Operations.
Sherry Middlebrook, Secretary
Sherry Middlebrook is currently a Learning Management Specialist at BASF Corporation with over 25 years of service. She is an active member in several Employee Resource groups: the Veterans, Vice President of the African American Employee, Latin American, Asian American, and AllChemie (LGBT) resource groups. She is also a Core Team Member of OBSERVE, BASFs behavior based safety program at their corporate headquarters. Professionally and personally Sherry has been a leader on global and functional projects, served as a team member in several employee resource groups, an active member of her church and community, and a basketball mom of a Special Olympics athlete.
Janna Little, Vice President of Finance
Janna Little, our Vice President of Finance, is currently a Regulatory Compliance Associate at a major professional services firm. Her experience includes over 15 years as a Finance Manager in financial services and insurance corporations. Janna is an active member of her church currently serving on the Trustee Board, Scholarship Ministry and multiple choirs. Janna received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Economics from Rutgers University. She holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and a Certificate in the Essentials of Project Management from Villanova University. Janna is a member of the National Black MBA Association, New Jersey Chapter.
Kathleen Valentine, Immediate Past President
Kathleen (Kathy) Valentine works in the telecommunications and international business arenas. After graduating with her MBA in Finance and International Business from the University of Pittsburgh in 1990, she joined AT&T Corporation in their rotational Professional Development Program in New Jersey. While working full-time for this Fortune 50 company, she attended New York University Stern’s School of Business at night and earned an additional graduate degree in Accounting. Her experience in the rotational program, and her academic performance at NYU earned her a 3-year international assignment in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region in Brussels Belgium. Her work with AT&T has included extensive new business development and venture analysis and her current role is in new product support for the AT&T Small Business Solutions (SBS) market. Through her numerous experiences within AT&T her positions have grown from manager in training – to area manager – to lead analyst – to associate director. At the same time, she has attained success within the non-profit arena through her work with the National Black MBA Association. She chaired the corporate relations and student affairs committees and eventually was elected as the Dallas Chapter President. Last year her leadership carried the Dallas Chapter to an outstanding year of activities that earned them Chapter of the Year status. Kathleen was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the youngest of seven siblings being raised by a widowed mother. She has lived and worked in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Basking Ridge New Jersey, San Francisco California, San Antonio Texas, Dallas Texas, Brussels Belgium and London UK.
